rapper and singer Drake is stirring conversation online after referencing global sensation BTS in a lyric from his new album Iceman. Released on May 15 alongside Habibti and Maid of Honour, the rapper’s track Make Them Cry includes the line: “I’m feeling like BTS ‘cause it took the whole career for me to be so discovered.” Fans quickly took to X, debating its meaning, some viewing it as dismissive of BTS’ decades-long global impact, while others see it as a reflection on the long road to mainstream recognition for artists. Meanwhile, BTS members J-Hope, V, Jimin, and RM have now shared their reactions as well.
Drake's Iceman track mentions BTS
Once the lyric circulated on X, social media erupted with debate. Some fans viewed Drake’s comparison as minimizing BTS’ decades of hard work and global success, while others interpreted it as a nod to the challenges artists face in achieving widespread recognition. Many quote reposts criticized Drake for seemingly overlooking BTS’ long-standing accomplishments. Others emphasized the group’s massive international fanbase and record-shattering career since their 2013 debut. While some dismissed the lyric as “backhanded,” supporters suggested it was a commentary on career longevity rather than a critique. The conversation comes amid buzz over Drake’s latest trio of releases, arriving less than two years after his headline-making feud with Kendrick Lamar in 2024.
