Ranveer
Singh, who was the new face of Farhan Akhtar’s Don franchise, chose not to go ahead with the film just three weeks before it went on floors. Locations were locked, money was put in and the crew was gearing up to join forces to create a cinematic gangster drama. With Ranveer’s last-minute exit, the structure of work collapsed, leading to massive losses to the production house. Farhan and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment took the legal route to seek relief. One of the Indian cine bodies, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees, decided to issue a non-cooperative directive against the actor.
Mika Singh backs Ranveer Singh
While Ranveer remains silent, Hindi industry celebrities have stepped forward to extend their support to the actor. Mika Singh, who was once banned by the
FWICE, has spoken up in Singh’s favour. Talking to paparazzo Viral Bhayani, the singer said, “Ranveer Singh is such a good and down-to-earth person. I know FWICE very well, and I’ll personally meet them and talk to them. After all, we are the bhais.”
Mika Singh ban
Mika was banned by the FWICE in 2019 after he performed at a wedding in Karachi, Pakistan. The All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) also decided to boycott him. Videos of Mika performing at the wedding event of former Pakistan Prime Minister, Pervez Musharraf’s relative went viral on August 8, 2019. Presenting his side of the story, Singh said at a press conference, “The timing was wrong that I went there because the decision on Article 370 has just been taken. I called the federation and told them that this was a mistake. I apologise for the mistake and I won't repeat it again. I got a visa, so I went (to Pakistan). If you get a visa, you will go, too.” After meeting the concerned authorities at the FWICE, ban of Mika was lifted after a week.
Why did FWICE issue non-cooperative directive against Ranveer Singh
Ranveer, after the release of
Dhurandhar in 2025, parted ways with the makers of
Don 3, reportedly due to creative differences. The actor decided to move on to his next film, Pralay. However, Farhan and Ritesh, the producers of Don 3, had incurred a loss of around Rs 40 crore, which they demanded from Ranveer as compensation. His denial led the makers to approach cine bodies, including the FWICE. On Monday, the organisation announced its decision in the makers’ favour.
In a statement, Ranveer’s team said the actor holds the highest regard for the film fraternity and for everyone associated with the Don franchise. “Throughout the recent developments surrounding Don 3, he has consciously chosen to maintain silence, believing that professional discussions and personal equations are best handled with dignity, maturity and mutual respect,” they further shared. Ranveer’s team added, “While several narratives and speculations have surfaced over time, Ranveer has never considered it necessary to respond publicly or contribute to conjecture. His focus remains firmly on his work and the commitments ahead.” Ending the statement, his team mentioned that he ‘continues to hold deep respect and goodwill for all those involved and sincerely wishes the franchise continued success. Choosing restraint and grace in moments like these has always been a conscious decision on his part, and he will continue to maintain the same stance’. Farhan, Ritesh and the team at
Excel Entertainment haven’t spoken about FWICE’s decision to issue non-cooperative directive against him.
