Emraan Hashmi recently shared his honest views on insecurity among male actors in Bollywood and the lack of women-led films. He pointed out why films like Animal performed well at the box office and said
that many men connected with its themes. The actor said that although such films will continue to be popular, there is also space for women-centric stories. However, he feels it is not easy to make such films as many male actors are hesitant to take them up. Citing examples like his latest courtroom drama Haq and The Dirty Picture, Emraan said he has always been open to strong, subject-driven narratives, regardless of gender.Emraan Hashmi Says Men In Bollywood Are 'Insecure'In an interview with News18, he said that Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga's Animal worked despite "a woke brigade working against it."
"Men in our industry are very insecure. How many people would’ve done a film like
Haq? Every narrative should showcase a man’s victory. I’m not blowing my own trumpet here. But even back then, I did a film like
The Dirty Picture. I liked the subject," he said.Emraan continued, “We need to get off our insecurities and do more stuff like that. But it’s very clear what’s happening today, cinematically. As far as things are going theatrically, you need a hyper-masculine man, a villain, the tropes, the clichés. It’s very evident that it’s what the audience wants. This kind of portrayal has always worked. In the 70s and the 80s, the hypermasculine era of Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna gave us films like Deewar and Trishul that worked."
