The
sudden exit of Indian origin actorSupriya Ganesh from HBO Max’s The Pitt has been shocking for the fans, to say the least. As one of the show’s core characters, Dr. Samira Mohan quickly became a fan favourite and the fact that she won't be in Season 3 has not gone down well with the viewers of the medical drama. With the series already renewed for a third season, her departure raised questions about what really led to this decision. Now, co-star Noah Wyle and creator R. Scott Gemmill have opened up, revealing that the reason is far more organic than dramatic.
Real reason behind Supriya Ganesh's exit
Ganesh’s exit was announced after the 13th episode of Season 2, with reports confirming that her character, Dr. Mohan, will not return for Season 3. While this development may seem abrupt, the makers insist it aligns with the core nature of the show. Speaking at PaleyFest in Los Angeles to
Variety, Wyle explained that such departures are an inevitable part of a medical drama that tries to be as close to reality as possible.
“Emergency rooms have a high revolving door,” Wyle shared, talking about how the series mirrors real-life hospital environments where professionals frequently move on. According to him, the writers constantly face the challenge of balancing continuity with authenticity, often introducing new characters or promoting existing ones to keep the narrative fresh.
The Pitt Season 2 hints at Supriya's exit
Creator R. Scott Gemmill also stated that
The Pitt is designed to reflect the natural progression of medical careers. Set in a teaching hospital, the show inherently allows for transitions, as doctors complete their training and explore new opportunities. In that sense, Dr. Mohan’s departure is less of a shock and more of a realistic career evolution.
Interestingly, the storyline itself had been hinting at this shift. Throughout Season 2, Dr. Mohan was seen grappling with mounting pressure, even experiencing a panic attack during a demanding shift. Her personal struggles, including conflicts with her mother and uncertainty about her future, painted the picture of a character at a crossroads. Conversations within the show also suggested she might be better suited for a different medical specialty, subtly paving the way for her exit.Despite the practical reasoning, Wyle made it clear that Ganesh’s departure is deeply felt. He described Dr. Mohan as a beloved character and praised Ganesh for her contribution to the series since its beginning. “We’re going to miss her,” he admitted, while wishing her success. As the show moves forward, changes in the cast are already underway. Ayesha Harris, who portrays Dr. Parker Ellis, will be elevated to a series regular in Season 3. Additionally, actors like Sepideh Moafi have joined the ensemble, ensuring that the series continues to evolve with fresh dynamics.Ganesh’s absence was also noticeable at PaleyFest, where she was initially expected to appear but later confirmed she would not attend. In a message shared with fans, she expressed her disappointment, acknowledging their support and assuring that the decision wasn’t taken lightly.
