legend Dharmendra is no more. The icon of Hindi cinema, breathed his last on November 24 at 89. A Filmfare discovery, Dharmendra had over 300 films to his credit. Following his death, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, took to X, formerly Twitter, to pay tribute to the late star.Taking to X, PM Modi wrote, “The passing of Dharmendra Ji marks the end of an era in Indian cinema. He was an iconic film personality, a phenomenal actor who brought charm and depth to every role he played. The manner in which he played diverse roles struck a chord with countless people. Dharmendra Ji was equally admired for his simplicity, humility and warmth. In this sad hour, my thoughts are with his family, friends and innumerable fans. Om Shanti.”
Starting from humble roots, Dharmendra made his way to Mumbai after winning a talent contest organised by Filmfare in the late 1950s. Debuting in 1960 with Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere, he would go on to do films Ayee Milan Ki Bela, Phool Aur Patthar and Aaye Din Bahar Ke. The actor was also a part of iconic folms Anupama, Chupke Chupke, Phool Aur Pathhar etc. He acted alongside Amitabh Bachchan in the iconic Sholay which released in 1975.

Karan Johar shared a lengthy post where he called the actor's passing the end of an era, while, Kareena Kapoor posted old pictures of veteran actor with Raj Kapoor and wrote, "Forever in Power." Ajay Devgn shared a poignant note, writing, "Heartbroken to hear about Dharam ji. His warmth, generosity and presence inspired generations of artists. The industry has lost a legend… and we’ve lost someone who shaped the very soul of our cinema. Rest in peace, Dharam ji. Om Shanti."The actor will be seen posthumously in the film Ikkis alongside Agastya Nanda. The film is set to release in December 25.
