Dhurandhar:
The Revenge is on a record-breaking spree and the Ranveer Singh-led film has now crossed the Rs 1000 crore mark at the Indian box office, appreciation is pouring in not just for the performances but also for the vision behind the film. Amid the widespread praise, actor Manav Gohil, who played Sushant Bansal in the spy thriller, has opened up about his experience of working with director Aditya Dhar. In an exclusive conversation with Zoom, Manav gave deep insight into Dhar’s working style, comparing him to a swan and talking about the calm strength he maintained despite big challenges.
Aditya Dhar is a 'pure soul', says Manav Gohil
Manav Gohil, who shares significant screen space with R. Madhavan and Ranveer Singh in the film, talked about the scale and ambition of Dhurandhar 2. Speaking about Dhar’s direction, he said, “Honestly, it will be very difficult to put it in words because it was larger than life. The ship he had embarked on, the journey and that ship was so huge, that as a captain I think he did a fantastic job.”
The actor went on to praise Aditya Dhar’s personality and creative honesty, adding, “More than anything I feel that Aditya himself is a very pure soul. Bahut honest hai woh. Pretence free hai, honest and that somewhere I think percolated down the line into actors and the content that is created.” According to Manav, this sincerity translated into the film’s performances, making every scene feel authentic and free of unnecessary dramatisation.
Why Manav Gohil compares Aditya Dhar to a swan
Speaking candidly about the director’s precision, Manav shared, “I think kisi bhi scene mein banavatipan ya zabardasti kuch karna hai na, kuch bhi nahi laga tha. So unki lines bhi badi sateek thi, woh jitna bolna tha utna hi convey karna tha. There was gravity in everything that he did and it was so precise. Jise Hindi mein hum sateek kehte hain. Everything was just right, spot on.”
One of the most striking metaphors used by Manav was his comparison of Aditya Dhar to a swan. Elaborating on this, he said, “I keep equating Aditya and a swan. On the sets, jo ek swan hota hai woh bade smoothly aise humein dikhta hai, paani mein aise tair raha hota hai, but uske neeche jo pair chalte hain na woh badi tezi se aur zor se chal rahe hote hain.” He further added that Aditya Dhar faced difficulties, but never stopped. “So, even to keep a calm demeanour on the surface, you know, Aditya was surely going through a lot of churning, a lot of challenges inside, but he was so (calm) oh my God," said Manav.Watch the full chat here:
