Why was Rohit Shetty accused of violating rules?
As per Mid-Day's report, Rohit customised ‘at least two of his private cars’, both sports utility vehicles (SUVs). According to Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1988, both these acts are illegal and subject to punishment. Nobody apart from those who belong to the police department and law enforcement is permitted to use these. A senior traffic officer told
Mid-Day that permission to use Police sticker and lights is granted only to officers. After verifying, it was confirmed that the SUVs have been registered in Shetty’s name. A senior RTO official said, “Under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, as amended in 2019, does not allow a ‘Police’ sticker, logo, or board on a private vehicle, under Section 177.
