The
vast estate of the late businessman and Karisma Kapoor's former husband Sunjay Kapur have been frozen by the Delhi High Court. The court on April 30, intervened following a contentious legal battle over his Rs 30,000 crore inheritance. Kapur, who passed away in London in June last year at the age of 53, is at the center of a bitteu feud involving his third wife, Priya Sachdev, and his children from his previous marriage to Bollywood actress Karisma with whom he has a daughter named Samaira and son Kiaan. The two children have leveled serious accusations against Priya, claiming she fabricated a will and submitted an inaccurate inventory of their father's holdings.
Allegations of fraud and omission
According to the case, Samaira and Kiaan allege that the list intentionally omitted several high-value items. These include a collection of expensive polo horses, luxury timepieces like Rolex watches. Several precious artwork and various real estate holdings also belonging to the broader Kapur family are included in the list.
Court ruling and asset preservation
The court emphasized the necessity of protecting the estate, stating that the assets "need to be preserved" and must not be depleted while the legal validity of the will is under scrutiny. To ensure this, the court issued an interim injunction that prohibits Priya Sachdev from selling or disposing of any assets. It also freezes Sunjay Kapur’s bank accounts. The presiding judge noted that the children had presented a strong enough initial case to warrant protection, remarking that it would be an "injustice" to allow the estate to be handled based on a document that may eventually be proven fraudulent. The burden of proof now rests on Priya Sachdev to validate the authenticity of the contested will.
Trouble with family legacy
The legal fight is not limited to the children;, it also involves Sunjay’s mother,
Rani Kapur, and his sister, Mandira. The proceedings have been marred by personal attacks, including a notable moment in November when the children were mockingly compared to a "wealthy Oliver Twist" for seeking a larger share of the fortune.
Sunjay Kapur’s death
Sunjay Kapur died on June 12 last year while participating in a polo match in London. While his mother initially raised suspicions of a conspiracy, British health officials concluded in August 2025 that he died of natural causes related to heart disease. It specifically mentioned ischemic heart disease and left ventricular hypertrophy.
