Vijay Varma is all set to bring out his romantic side in the upcoming film Gustaakh Ishq, also featuring Fatima Sana Shaikh. The movie helmed by Vibhu Puri also featured Nasseruddin Shah and Sharib Hashmi, among others. Ahead of the film's release on November 28, 2025, Vijay opened up about one of his superhit projects, Darlings. The actor recalled how he was worried about his career after watching the first half of the film at a screening hosted by Alia Bhatt.

In an exclusive conversation with Zoom, Vijay Varma revealed what it was like watching Darlings with Alia Bhatt during a small screening in SOHO. He said, “The entire campaign promoted the film as a dark comedy. But after watching the first half, I walked out, went to the washroom, and puked. I was having palpitations. I kept wondering, ‘Where is the comedy?’ I looked terrifying on screen. Even though I knew what was coming next, the way it was shot made it feel like every time my character came home, the audience would fear for the girl. I honestly thought, ‘I’m worried for my career now. People will hate me after this.’”

Shaheen Bhatt on Vijay's role in Darlings

He also recalled an encounter with a man at the airport who told him, “Aapko Darling Warling jaisi pictures nahi karni chahiye.” (You shouldn't do films like Darlings). Vijay added, “I think he was genuinely offended.”

Meanwhile, speaking about Vijay Varma's upcoming film, Gustaakh Ishq, it is the third venture from Manish Malhotra’s Stage5 Production, launched in 2023. The banner has earlier produced Saali Mohabbat and Bun Tikki, both awaiting release. Written and directed by Vibhu Puri Dehalvi, the film completed shooting in April last year. With music by Vishal Bhardwaj and lyrics by Gulzar, and featuring Sharib Hashmi in a key role, Gustaakh Ishq is slated to hit theatres on November 28,2025.
