The US-based tech giant Amazon will soon stop supporting old-gen Kindle e-readers and Kindle Fire tablets. The change will come into effect from May 20, 2026. In a statement to The Verge, the company confirmed change will affect several older Kindle devices released in 2012 and earlier. This means users will not be able to purchase, borrow or download content from the Kindle Store on these devices.Amazon has also clarified that if users deregister or factory reset these older devices after May 20, they will not be able to re-register them again. In simple terms, once reset, your device may become unusable for Kindle services.The list of affected devices includes some of the earliest Kindle models such as Kindle 1st and 2nd Generation, Kindle DX,
Kindle Keyboard, Kindle 4, Kindle Touch, Kindle 5, and the first-generation Kindle Paperwhite. Older Kindle Fire tablets launched around the same time are also impacted. As per the report, he company is expected to notify affected users via email ahead of the deadline, explaining the limitations and what functionality will remain.The tech giant is also offering discounts on new Kindle devices along with some eBook credits for eligible users. For those still using older devices, there are alternative options.
