Dhurandhar
might be doing wonders in the theatres and box office, leaving fans asking for more from director Aditya Dhar. But amid all the excitement, many are getting reminded of a previous movie which Aditya had planned after his directorial debut Uri: The Surgical Strike (2019). In October 2020, The Immortal Ashwatthama was announced which was supposed to reunite Aditya with his Uri actor Vicky Kaushal. But the film fell though.
About The Immortal Ashwatthama
Billed as a superhero action film,
The Immortal Ashwatthama was to go on floors later in 2020. The makers had even launched two intriguing posters featuring Vicky. But, the movie kept getting delayed for several months, until August 2021 when it was officially revealed that the film had been shelved due to budget constraints. Now, amid the unstoppable
Dhurandhar buzz, netizens have brought back
The Immortal Ashwatthama in thetrends, sharing reactions on a viral video where Aditya spoke about the movie going on a back burner and the real reason behind it.
Aditya Dhar explains why The Immortal Ashwatthama got shelved
In the viral video for 2024, we see Aditya speaking at a press conference. He says, "We have put that film on the back burner right now. I'll be very honest with you. The kind of vision we all had for that film, was too big for the mathematics to work for Indian cinema. The kind of VFX quality we were looking at, nobody has even strived for it yet. Now either the technology becomes cheap, or the number of cinema halls increases so that more people start watching films. I'll have to wait till then.""I'll give you an example. James Cameron thought of Avatar 27 years ago. But he waited for the market to go up, or technology to come to that level where he can actually present it. I'm no James Cameron, not even a small part of him. But the point is, we have to make sure there's excellence and intent. If we need to achieve that, then there cannot be any mediocrity. It doesn't matter even if it is 5 years of the prime time of my life. I can’t make it for the heck of it. The film has to be brilliant. Once a film is made, it is made for the next hundreds of years. So it cannot be something that is mediocre, where my intent is wrong, where I have to make money. It has to strive for excellence," the filmmaker added.
Fans demand The Immortal Ashwatthama to be made
Netizens have now stepped up demand to revive the project. One fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "This man will go places. And we are totally ready for it." A second one said, "Ambani has deep pockets je should greenlight this magnum-opus dream project of @AdityaDharFilms through Jio Studios with a solid budget and kick it off soon hopefully he does it and makes massive profits."A post read, "Aditya Dhar is levelling up with every film. #Dhurandhar proves how effortlessly he can craft massy moments with genuine creativity. I just hope his dream project The Immortal Ashwatthama finally takes off… whether it’s with Ranveer, Vicky, or maybe even Hrithik." Another post stated, "His vision is just too far and he is so humble..... hopefully we can see the immortal ashwatthama in future...."
