Dies Irae, opened to positive reviews from fans and critics alike, right from the early paid previews on 30 October. Talking about the response the film has been receiving and if he expected the result, Rahul Sadasivan said "It is very good, I am very happy with the reception. People are praising the technical details of the film too. While making the film, I knew there is a market for horror, and there is an audience for it. But this kind of response is overwhelming." While Rahul Sadasivan's previous film, Bramayugam saw him work with superstar Mammootty, Dies Irae featured Dadasaheb Phalke Award winner Mohanlal's son Pranav Mohanlal play the lead. Talking about his experience of working with the actor he said "Pranav is a jolly, chilled out. It was absolutely fun.'
Having working in over three horror films since the beginning of his career, Rahul Sadasivan says he is particularly inclined to this genre. Ask him if he feels the 'pressure' to work on a 'commercial horror-comedy' he said "I am not sure if that is my cup of tea. I want to do films which are true to the theme, and showcase stories which are rooted. I never thought that I will end up only making horror, but the concept fascinates me." Sharing his opinion about working to bring in box office numbers he said "I don't chase these numbers, my work is to tell the story, and I want to do that honestly."
