After singer Neha Kakkar announced a break from work, relationships, and social media, comedian Zakir Khan has revealed he is stepping away from the spotlight for a few years to prioritise his health.
At his show in Hyderabad, the comedian revealed to a surprised audience on his Papa Yaar tour that he would be taking a long break to take care of his ailing health. The video from the stand-up show has gone viral on social media after his announcement. Khan's Papa Yaar tour will go until June 20, 2026, and he will commence his hiatus after that last show.
Zakir Khan announces five-year break to address health issues
A video from Zakir Khan's Hyderabad comedy show has been shared online in which the comedian got emotional as he revealed plans to step back from the stage. He shared, "I'm going on a long, long break till 2028, 2029, 2030 probably. Three, four, five-year break to take care of health and some other issues that need to be looked at. At this moment, everyone present here tonight is very close to my heart. Your presence means more to me than you can imagine, and I will always be grateful to all of you. Thank you so much."
Later, Khan took to his Instagram Stories where he posted a photo from ahead of his Dubai show and wrote, "Every show is a celebration till 20th June. Mai bahut sheher nahi aa paunga, iss bar aap thoda takaluf utha kar aa jaiye. Thank you for all the love.
Over the years, Khan has achieved several milestones in his career. Last year, in September 2025, he made history as the
first Indian comedian to perform standup in Hindi at New York's Madison Square Garden. He first broke through the comedy space by winning Comedy Central's India's Best Stand-up competition in 2012.
Decision to take a break from comedy tours
The comedian has been open about his health struggles. Just last year on social media, Khan had spoken about the rigours of touring back-to-back shows, taking early morning flights, eating irregularly, and losing sleep over a decade. He has been unwell for a while and could not ignore his health issues.
