The report further said that onlookers were convinced that there was more than just friendship between the two. It famously stated that those who saw them together were “struck by their closeness” and believed they were “deeply and passionately in love.” Rumours of a possible wedding soon followed.However, adding a dramatic curve to the narrative, the reported involvement of Rekha’s mother, Pushpavalli caused a huge uproar. As per the same vintage report, Pushpavalli was said to be impressed by Imran Khan and reportedly even consulted an astrologer—or najoomi—in Delhi to assess his suitability as her daughter’s life partner. As per the report, Rekha’s mother was convinced Imran could be a welcome addition to the family.But, fate had other plans, the much-discussed relationship never culminated in marriage. Both Rekha and Imran moved on with their respective lives and careers. Imran Khan would later go on to marry British socialite Jemima Goldsmith in 1995.What is interesting to note is that neither Rekha nor Imran Khan ever publicly confirmed being romantically involved. However, their alleged love-story remains in the hallowed halls of cinema, whispered as half-rumours and half-mysteries even to this day.
