its lead actors seems to be taking the challenge sportingly. Infact, they've joined the bandwagon and are calling Dune: Part 3 vs Avengers: Doomsday, this year's 'Barbenheimer'. RDJ took a jibe at the face-off between the two movies while sharing stage with Timothée in Los Angeles during the special screening of latter's A24 movie Marty Supreme on January 14.

During a Q&A, the two actors were asked about the much-hyped
Dune: Part 3 vs
Avengers: Doomsday. Robert Downey Jr confirmed the clash while addressing the audience. He said, "We both have films opening on December 18, and we decided to coin a name for it. We’re thinking 'Dunesday'." He added, "We’ll see if we’re still friends by then," leaving the auditorium in splits.
'Barbenheimer' and aftermath
Hollywood has so far seen
Barbie and
Oppenheimer clashing in 2023 and jointly grossing close to $2.5 billion worldwide, thus giving way to the 'Barbenheimer' phenomenon. This was followed by
Wicked and
Gladiator II, jointly called 'Glicked' in 2024. When Marvel announced the release date of
Avengers: Doomsday on the same day as
Dune: Part 3, with neither of the two ready to change the schedule, fans knew another big box office weekend awaits Hollywood in 2026.

Avengers: Doomsday has already started building on curiosity with the timely release of its teasers that have so far confirmed the return of Chris Evan as Steve Rogers / Captain America and Chris Hemsworth as Thor, apart from Robert Downey Jr as Doctor Doom and other franchises like Black Panther, The Fantastic Four and the reboot of X-Men.
