Actor Dhanush has officially revealed the title of his highly anticipated next project, previously known as D54, on the festive occasion of Pongal. The film has been titled Kara, and the announcement was
made alongside the release of a striking new poster that showcases Dhanush in an intense avatar. Directed by Vignesh Raja and produced by Ishari K Ganesh under the Vels Film International banner, the film has already generated strong buzz for its gritty tone and powerful ensemble. With the title reveal, the makers have offered audiences a glimpse into what promises to be an emotionally charged suspense thriller.
D54 is officially Kara
The production house Vels Film International took to X to share the official announcement, writing, “#D54 is #கர. #HappyPongal. Directed by @vigneshraja89. Produced by @IshariKGanesh. A @gvprakash musical.” Along with the title, the makers unveiled a poster featuring Dhanush in a fierce, intense look. The poster carries the caption, “Sometimes, staying dangerous is the only way to stay alive,” hinting at the high-stakes world the film is set in.
Director Vignesh Raja also shared his excitement, describing
Kara as 'an emotionally rooted suspense thriller.' He confirmed that the film is scheduled for a summer release, adding to the anticipation surrounding the project. The poster also has Netflix's logo, confirming that the film will be streaming on the platform after theatrical release.

Kara stars Malayam actress Mamitha Baiju as the female lead and features a strong supporting cast including K S Ravikumar, Jayaram, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunas and Prithvi Pandiraj. On the technical front, the film boasts cinematography by Theni Eswar, editing by Sreejith Sarang and music composed by National Award winner G V Prakash, further raising expectations from the project.
It is bankrolled by Vels Film International. The film was launched with a pooja ceremony on July 10, 2025, after which fans had been constantly asking for a title reveal.
