What is the story about?
As
the entertainment industry continues to evolve with the rise of OTT platforms, many filmmakers are rethinking the balance between streaming and theatrical releases. Baramulla makers Aditya Suhas and Lokesh Dhar recently opened up about this ongoing debate in an exclusive interview with Zoom. Both emphasized that, ultimately, it’s the audience who sets the trend — not the medium.
Aditya Suhas: “Audience Just Wants Good Content”
In conversation with Zoom, Aditya Suhas highlighted how audience preferences have become more refined over time, thanks to exposure to international content. He said, “I think this whole thing which we analyse behind the camera, I feel audience doesn't care about anything, doesn't think like that at all. What audience is right now looking at you give me content, I will invest my time and watch it, and I'll get entertained or criticised whatever I feel. So I think right now it's all about that audience has grown so intelligent now because of exposure they got from the international content also. They are just looking for a good content where they relate and have emotional connection with the particular craft that you are into no matter what genre you are trying to build. So whether it is OTT, films, theatre, the whole point comes down to are you able to tell that story in whatever two hours, in a way where it is not dragging, or boring, sloppy in writing. Is it entertaining and at the same time have a good emotional connect, we should keep it as simple as that then whatever is going to fall in that bracket, the audience is going to respond to it.”Lokesh Dhar: “Trends Are Defined by the Audience”
Echoing a similar sentiment, co-maker Lokesh Dhar shared his perspective on how creators should approach filmmaking. He said, “When we make a film, we are not thinking of what is the audience wanting, what are the trends because we don't know what the audience wants. We can only tell stories which is true to what we want to say and is something that we want to watch. So as long as we are authentic, as long as we are telling stories which is very true rooted, entertaining and world class so people will watch it. The trend is defined by the audience.”Baramulla releases on November 7 in theatres.Do you find this article useful?
