Dharmendra has been posthumously awarded the prestigious Padma Vibhushan for his immense contributions to the film industry. Celebs from South industry to Bollywood stars and fans have been extending congratulatory
messages on social media. Joining them is remowned director Anil Sharma, who worked with Dharmendra in Apne, also featuring his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. In a heartwarming post remembering the He-Man of Bollywood, Anil Sharma expressed his one wish that if the honour would have come before, the Sholay star could have accepted it himself.

In a post shared by the
Gadar 2 director wrote, "Heartfelt congratulations to every admirer of @aapkadharam ji on his #PadmaVibhushan." He added, "One only wishes this honour had come earlier, when he could have accepted it himself… the joy would have been immeasurable. Yet the truth remains… some legacies rise above awards. The love, respect, and admiration Dharam ji received from generations is far greater than any title , medal or any award."
Hema Malini wrote a heartfelt note on X (formerly Twitter) on Sunday to celebrate Dharmendra's posthumous Padma Vibhushan award. She said, "I'm so, so proud that the government has given Dharam ji the prestigious Padma Vibhushan to honor his huge contributions to the film industry." In 2012, Dharmendra had received the Padma Bhushan for his work in Indian cinema.

In 1960, Dharmendra Kewal Krishan Deol made his first movie,
Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Tere, when he was 24 years old. He started out with small roles in popular movies like Bandini, Ayee Milan Ki Bela, and Kaajal. The 1965 war drama Haqeeqat was his big break as a box office star.
With hit movies like
Anupama, Aadmi Aur Insaan, Mera Gaon Mera Desh, Seeta Aur Geeta, Sholay, Loafer, Yaadon Ki Baaraat, and
Dharam Veer, he became one of Hindi cinema's biggest stars. He was the king of the business from the 1960s to the 1980s and made a lot of hits, lik
e Ankhen, Shikar, Aya Sawan Jhoom Ke, Jeevan Mrityu, Raja Jani, and many more. Ikkis, which came out in theaters earlier this year, was his last movie.
Dharmendra died at age of 89
Dharmendra passed away on November 24, 2021, at the age of 89 in his home in Mumbai. Earlier that month, he had just gotten out of Breach Candy Hospital after a health scare and was recovering at home. He was cremated in Mumbai on November 25.On November 27, his sons Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol held a prayer meeting in Mumbai. A lot of famous people from the industry, like Salman Khan and Amitabh Bachchan, went. Esha Deol and Hema Malini did not go to the meeting. Later, it was revealed that Hema Malini and her daughters held a separate prayer meeting at her Mumbai home on the same day.Dharmendra's two wives are still living. He married Prakash Kaur in 1954, and they had four kids together, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol among them. In 1980, he married Hema Malini. They have two daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol.
