Altman is in Washington this week to meet US lawmakers, including House speaker Mike Johnson. As per Reuters, he will push the government officials to expand funding for AI testing and safety research instead of strict proposals that could slow down the innovation in AI.Reportedly, he believes that such rules could eventually delay the launch of new AI tools and force the tech players to redesign systems in ways that weaken performance or usefulness. Notably, the American company wants more funding from the US Department of Commerce’s AI evaluation programme. Moreover, OpenAI is also suggesting adding experts in cybersecurity, biological risks, and national security to help test advanced AI systems more carefully. For those who are unaware, the executive order from the US government will increase the official oversight of the technology. Moreover, it asks the national-security and cyber experts to work with the agency heads and tech companies to address critical software flaws identified by AI models like Mythos.
