Amid
the Karuppu release delay, the makers of the Suriya and Trisha Krishnan film have issued a public notice. Their legal representative on Thursday shared a statement questioning the "unauthorised and illegal activation of KDMs." They said the film was "unlawfully exhibited" in North India without final authorisation or approval from the producers. For those unversed, the film is facing release issues due to financial hurdles. As shows were cancelled on May 14, some theatres still screened it in North India. This has led to more chaos amid the row. The team has warned fans against downloading or circulating the film’s content, threatening serious legal action.
Karuppu Makers Issue Public Notice
Advocate Vijayan Subramanian, legal counsel for Karuppu production banner Dream Warrior Pictures, said that the producers are the copyright owner of the RJ Balaji. It has been made with investments of several hundreds of crores and planned for a worldwide release across more than 20 countries and around 3,000 screens, he added. "It has come to my client’s utmost shock and dismay that due to unauthorised and illegal activation of KDMs by Qube Cinema Technologies, certain
theatrical screenings of the Tamil version of the film Karuppu were unlawfully exhibited in North India without final authorization or approval," Subramanian added. He said that because of this, visuals, scenes and clips from the film had allegedly been recorded and circulated on various social media and digital platforms.He warned fans that downloading, recording, storing, forwarding, sharing, uploading or circulating any leaked content from Karuppu on platforms such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Instagram, Facebook, X, YouTube, torrent sites or any other medium would constitute offences under the Copyright Act, 1957, the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000. He cautioned that such acts amount to piracy and copyright infringement and may lead to serious civil and criminal action.He also advised the general public not to engage in any unauthorised access, sharing or distribution of the film’s content, and stated that anyone found involved in such activities would face immediate legal proceedings before the appropriate authorities and courts.

The issue came to light when 9 am shows of the film were cancelled at the last minute. Soon after, the afternoon, evening, and night screenings were also called off. The makers confirmed that the film is facing financial hurdles and expressed hope of resolving the matter soon.Director RJ Balaji, in a video message to fans, broke down in theatres and apologised for the situation.
