Featured in Varun Dhawan’s upcoming film Hai Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai, the song has brought back nostalgia for many viewers. Originally from Salman Khan’s film Biwi No. 1, the track remains an evergreen fan favourite. However, the remake received backlash from Abhijeet Bhattacharya, the original singer of the hit song. The team appears to be divided. Anu Malik, composer of the original Chunnari Chunnari, has now come forward to celebrate the recreation and extend his support to Varun Dhawan.
Anu Malik Backs Varun Dhawan’s Chunnari Song
Popular Bollywood singer and composer Anu Malik shared a video of himself talking about the remake of
Chunnari Chunnari- Let's go. In his Instagram video, Anu Malik appeared ecstatic about the revival of the OG beats. He spoke about how the original and the remake will remain hits. Remembering the early days when the song was a super hit, the singer said, “Salman Khan took it to a different level."
Calling Varun Dhawan a superstar, Anu Malik praised the actor’s appearance in Chunnari Chunnari and said he enjoyed seeing a fresh face bring the iconic song back to life. He also praised the cast of the song for their amazing performances. “What a dance, those girls are looking so beautiful, Varun, how well have you danced,” he said . Malik also recalled his bond with the film’s director,
David Dhawan. He remembered his journey with the latter and how he watched every film from David's craft.
Varun Dhawan has received support from Anu Malik. The gesture is likely to have boosted the actor’s enthusiasm for the film. Varun also reacted to the support by liking Anu Malik’s Instagram video.
The Remake Controversy
In an exclusive interview with Zoom,
Abhijeet Bhattacharya expressed his dislike for the song's remake. He compared Varun Dhawan’s presence with that of Salman Khan, and said the
Hai Jawaani To Ishq Hona Hai actor cannot do justice to the song. “They made a wise decision by not retaining my voice in the song”, he expressed how that would have received widespread criticism.
David Dhawan’s directorial
Hai Jawaani To Ishq Hona Hai is set for its theatrical release on June 5. The ensemble cast includes Varun Dhawan, Pooja Hegde, and Mrunal Thakur as leads with Chunky Pandey, Maniesh Paul, Jimmy Shergill and Mouni Roy in key roles.
