Artificial
intelligence is changing how engineers code. It is not just an image creator anymore. Rather, it has become an AI assistant that helps people build apps faster. Now Elon Musk's xAI has entered the market with its new AI coding tool that may give strong competition to Anthropic’s Claude Code. Dubbed Grok Build, it can help users to make software quicker and cheaper.
What Is Grok Build?
Musk’s xAI launched Grok Build. It is the company’s first-ever AI coding agent, which will help with professional software engineering tasks. Currently, the tool is in early testing, and it is only available to users who have already subscribed to the company’s premium “
SuperGrok Heavy” plan. As per xAI, Grok Build can help developers handle complex coding tasks through simple text commands. Moreover, users can ask the AI to make a plan before writing code, review each step and even approve or edit the plan manually before the AI starts execution. The startup also mentioned a feature where every code modification seems like a “clean diff", which allows developers to track changes made by the AI.
How Grok Build Can Compete With Other AI Agents
The introduction of these AI tools shows how
xAI is in the race to compete with rivals like Anthropic, whose Claude AI models are popular among engineers and offer similar assistance for coding. Musk has reportedly accepted that xAI needs to work harder on coding-related AI products. Michael Nicolls, xAI’s president and a Starlink executive, has told employees to improve Grok's coding performance to match the level of Claude in the near future.
It is noteworthy that the rising competition between AI companies could change the way coding agents could function and businesses build digital products. This also highlights that with the rise of coding assistants, there will be fewer bugs, quicker feature rollout and more personalised AI-powered experiences. However, as AI coding tools gain prominence, the question again circles back to what about the entry-level jobs that might be affected by the AI coding assistants? It remains on time to tell the story.
