The
government has rejected the claims circulating online about the upcoming changes coming to the Aadhaar card. The Press Information Bureau (PIB) clarified on Sunday that reports claiming a major redesign of Aadhaar are not correct. This information clarification camera after several social media posts and articles online suggested that the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is planning to revamp the Aadhaar design into a simplified format with only a QR code and your photo.
Here’s What PIB Said
Denying the changes, PIB stated that there is no plan to revamp the design of the Aadhaar card into a simplified format with only a QR code and your photo. The government addressed the false claims circulating online and called them misleading. It mentioned that there is no such proposal to change the Aadhaar’s current format into a minimal version. The government has warned that such rumours can create unnecessary confusion among people and it advised the citizens to ignore unverified posts and rather follow official announcements from PIB and UIDAI. PIB stated, “Clarification on some news reports on the “new look” of
#Aadhaar. There are intermittent news reports and social media posts explaining how Aadhaar’s look may change by the end of this year to just a photo and a QR code, alone. This is NOT CORRECT. There is no plan for any such changes. Such news reports and social media posts are creating unwanted confusion in the minds of the people.”
It added, “People in general are advised to ignore such reports and social media posts, and refer to official communication from
UIDAI through its official social media handles and press releases issued through PIB. Media is also advised not to encourage such information.”Notably, it is often suggested that people must stay away from fake information circulating online especially through social media platforms like WhatsApp. Rather than relying on viral or unofficial reports, people must check the official communication channels of the government.
