What is the story about?
Carry
On Jatta 4 is set to surprise audiences with an emotional and technological tribute to veteran actor Jaswinder Bhalla. During a recent interaction with Zoom, Gippy Grewal revealed that the makers used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to recreate Bhalla’s beloved on-screen presence after his passing. Calling the decision both risky and emotional, Grewal shared that the team initially considered dropping the film altogether, believing the franchise would feel incomplete without Mr. Bhalla. However, after discussing with his family and getting their consent, the makers have respectfully brought back this iconic character using AI, CGI and VFX technology, adding a unique new dimension to the comedy franchise.
Gippy Grewal on using AI
Speaking to Zoom, Gippy Grewal revealed that the team never initially planned to use AI in Carry On Jatta 4. “For the first time, we have created someone from A.I. and brought him in the film,” he shared, adding that the character’s absence was deeply felt during production.Grewal explained that the late actor's presence was always meant to be part of the story. “We were working, so we knew that he will be Mr. Bhalla. So, he will come in the film. We used to miss him. So, it will be a new thing for the audience,” he said. He further revealed that Carry On Jatta 4 introduces a fresh “ghost flavour,” with the character’s soul becoming part of the storyline, creating “a new world” within the franchise.

Reflecting on the emotional challenge, Grewal admitted the makers even considered abandoning the project. “Once, we dropped the idea of making the film. Everyone started saying, how can we do it without Mr. Bhalla? Because he was such an iconic actor,” he said. According to him, replacing the late actor with another performer would not have worked. “Even if a good actor comes, people will abuse him. It is not good,” he added. The actor-producer also acknowledged the ethical debate surrounding AI usage in cinema. "I think that the AI that has been used, there was a risk in it. But I can understand that you needed it. You took permissions and did it in a way. But I think there is a lot of discussion about AI. To what extent an artist should use AI. Because in today’s date, the use of AI is wrong. We never thought that we will use it. Never,” he said. However, Grewal stressed that the team moved ahead only after receiving approval from Jaswinder Bhalla’s family. “So, we thought, let’s talk to his family. Let’s use Mr. Bhalla’s voice. We talked to aunty. She said, ‘I want to see if you can make it.’ So, we created him,” he revealed. Despite the risks, Grewal believes the emotional connection justified the decision. “It doesn’t matter what is new or old. It should be good. Films are made in two ways — good or bad. The thing that looks good, that is good. So, the film should be good,” he concluded.Meanwhile, Carry On Jatt 4 the highly anticipated fourth installment of the iconic Punjabi comedy franchise. Also starring Sargun Mehta, the film will hit cinemas on June 26, 2026.
