Haq Director Suparn S Varma Says 'Nidar' Emraan Hashmi Said 'Don't Protect Me'; New Mother Yami Gautam Dhar 'Sacrificed' A Lot - EXCL

Court case. In an exclusive interaction with Zoom, Suparn got candid about casting Emraan and Yami as the main leads. He was flanked by model-turned-actress Vartika Singh, who makes her debut with Haq. Suparn lauded Yami's dedication towards the project which she shot for just after welcoming her first child with filmmaker husband Aditya Dhar.

Yami Gautam on shooting Haq as a new mother

Suparn said, "Yami is one of the best actresses we have in the country today. The way she deep-dived into the film, the way she sacrificed for the film, and I mean it. She was a new mother. And she was on set with me for 35 days. We shot the film for 32 days. She never went back home to a newly born child. She didn't bring her son to the set while we shot in Lucknow. She kept him away. She finished her work because she stayed in her character as Shazia Bano. For those 32 days on set, she was Shazia Bano. Only on the last day of the shoot, the last shot, which was a reaction shot, a very peaceful one, was when she cracked a smile."

Emraan putting the film, his character above himself

For Emraan, Suparn was all praise too. He noted how the actor kept the movie and his character above his stardom. "To have Emraan was a huge victory. He heard the script and his instant reaction was yes! He not just loved the script, he understood Abbas, he really wanted this film to be made the way it is written. He went in fearlessly, so much so, that we had some creative discussions where he said, 'my character should do this, not someone else, you don't need to protect me.' He didn't come in as a star playing the role of Abbas," the director said."He came in as an actor who's at top of his game saying 'you know what, this is challenging; let me go at it with full gusto rather than half-heartedly trying to also protect this and protect that.' He went in completely, 'nidar' is the word I would use for him. It was something magical," Supran added.

Haq's romance track

Supran, who has previously directed shows like The Family Man, Rana Naidu and The Trial, shared even the film's small romance track would leave an impact. "When you have actors like these, the romance lasts for an X period of time, but the repercussions of romance are felt through the fight that they have. You need two great actors to create that romance in a short period of time, and Emraan is the King of Romance.
