Singh made his big Bollywood debut with Band Baaja Baaraat. The actor was paired opposite Anushka Sharma in the film, which was theatrically released on December 10, 2010. Today, Band Baaja Baaraat has completed 10 years since its theatrical release. On this occasion, director Maneesh Sharma recalled Ranveer's casting for the romantic comedy. The filmmaker revealed how most people weren't convinced about the actor's casting.

How Ranveer Singh was cast for Band Baaja Baaraat

In an interview with Indian Express, Maneesh revealed how Ranveer was cast for Band Baaja Baaraat. The director revealed, "It was through auditions. His name was suggested by Shanoo Sharma. The first test I saw was very convincing, and the second one I took myself was just as impressive. I was sure he was Bittu. Most people around me weren’t convinced, except Adi, he was on board from day one."The filmmaker further reflected on how Anushka's Shruti remained the film's centre. Anushka was always Maneesh's first choice for the film. But I told her that no way Shruti will have less agency. And she completely trusted me," he shared. The director added that Shruti became more mature and centered by the second half. "She has two really strong moments in the entire film. The breakdown and the slap; those define her journey. She’s always the kind of character who hits hard at the right moments, leaves a mark, and that stays with you," he recalled.
