In their joint anniversary post on Instagram, Ashutosh and Renuka compared their marriage to a sangam, referring to marriage as a relation that turns two separate people into one. It's not about changing each other, but about helping the other person to grow. To which they also added that love alone is not enough, that mutual respect is just as important for a marriage to last. The couple also added, "Time spent in joy passes quickly, without one even noticing."

Ashutosh Rana and Renuka Shahane's road to marriage

The couple first met on the set of Hansal Mehta’s debut film, Jayate, which never made its way to the big screen but successfully became a witness to their love story. After their first meeting on the set, they stayed in touch with each other over phone calls and dated for two years before getting married on May 25, 2001.

For both of them as individuals, getting married came with its own hesitations. For Ashutosh, it was him being unsure of whether the marriage would last even two days. In one of his old interviews, he admitted to this and said that it was his father who pushed him to take a step further with Renuka and get married after he went to Renuka and simply said, “I have a request, I want to get married to you. Will you?” However, for Renuka, it was her second marriage after having a difficult time in her previous relationship. And then she came into a marriage with Ashutosh with fear, but Ashutosh helped her ease the process.

Later, their marriage took place in Damoh, Madhya Pradesh, on the advice of Ashutosh Rana’s spiritual guru, who also blessed the match. The couple wanted the ceremony to be simple and intimate but reached the wedding destination only to find the station packed with their fans. They had to push their way to reach the venue. After 25 years, the couple is now parents to two sons, Shauryaman and Satyendra Rana.
