Last week, during a press meet for the upcoming Tamil film Others, YouTuber RS Karthik asked director Abin Hariharan and actor Aditya Madhavan about Gouri G Kishan's weight. The actress called him out for his
sexist remarks, and on Saturday, November 8, Karthik apologised. On November 10, however, Gouri has finally reacted to the apology and called it "performative remorse." Check out her social media post below.
Gouri G Kishan turns down YouTuber's hollow apology after body-shaming remarks
On X (formerly Twitter), Gouri reshared Karthik's video apology and wrote, "An apology without accountability isn’t an apology at all. Especially when it’s brushed off with “she misunderstood the question — it was just a fun one,” or worse — “I didn’t body-shame anyone.” Let me be clear. I won’t accept performative remorse or hollow words. Do better, RS Karthik." Gouri also shared the same remarks on her Instagram Story.
In his apology, Karthik claimed that he did not intend to offend the actress and his question had been misunderstood. After his question, Gouri had replied during the press meet for Others, “How does my weight concern you in any way? How does it matter and be relevant to the film? My weight is my choice, and it does not concern my talent. I can only speak through my films, and I am working hard. I have chosen characters that are career-oriented.”ALSO READ: Gouri G Kishan On Women Being 'Se*ualised And Objectified': Coming From A Place Of Superior Gender | ExclusiveIn an exclusive interview, Gouri also explained to Meghna Deka, anchor and national editor of Times Now, why she was triggered at the conference by his remark. She stated, "As women, we are always told to be quiet. You're too much, you can't be angry, you have to be composed, be the good girl. No, if you're being offended and if you're being sexualized and objectified, you shouldn't be a good girl. He asked me nothing about my work, today they're asking my weight, tomorrow, what are they going to ask if I'm going to react? It is extremely scary."Other artists from the South, such as Samyuktha Viswanathan, Khushbu Sundar, Radikaa Sarathkumar, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and filmmaker PA Ranjith, have shared their support for Gouri. Others, which also stars Anju Kurian, Munishkanth Hareesh Peradi, Nandu Jagan, Mala Parvathy, and Vinoth Sagar, released in theatres on November 7.
