raining awards for legendary Malayalam actor Mammootty. A day after the iconic star was conferred with the Padma Bhushan, he has received the honour of Best Actor at the Kerala State Film Awards. The senior actor received the trophy at a huge event, attended by Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan and Minister for Cultural Affairs Saji Cherian. The actor has shared a humble note to commemorate the occasion and thanked the Kerala Government, fans for loving his performance.
Padma Bhushan awardee Mammootty receives Best Actor award at Kerala State Awards
In a post shared by the 74-year-old star on X, (Formerly Twitter), he expressed honour to receive the the Kerala State Film Award for "Best Actor for Bramayugam from the Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri. @pinarayivijayanand Shri Saji Cherian, Minister for Cultural Affairs." The senior actor expressed gratitude to the government, journey and his fans. He added, "My sincere thanks to the Government of Kerala, the jury, and everyone who has supported me on this journey." He also shared pictures from the ceremony.
The photos also show the ministers congratulating the senior actor for his win.
About Bramayugam
Mammootty has won the award for his stellar performance in the 2024 released folk-horror-thriller Bramayugam. In the film, Mammootty and Arjun Ashokan play pivotal roles. The story is about Ashokan's character, who goes to Mammootty's big mansion to hide after a friend's murder that no one knows about. There, he finds out about the dark and disturbing secrets that are hidden inside the walls. The movie is successful because its story is so interesting and the actors are so good. Mammootty plays the part of Kodumon Potti, whose name was changed by the Hon'ble High Court of Kerala because of the current sensitive climate. Arjun Ashokan plays Thevan, a Paanan or court singer, and Sidharth Bharathan plays the cook in Potti's house.

Bramayugam has been praised for aptly combining themes of caste, feudalism, possession, and witchcraft, and for casting the legendary Mammootty in a role that is chillingly evil. People have especially praised the film's stark black-and-white cinematography for making the creepy mood even creepier.This comes as the second award for Mammootty, after him being conferred with the Padma Bhushan on Republic Day's eve, recognising individuals who have demonstrated exceptional service and made a lasting impact across diverse fields.

Meanwhile, Mammootyy took to social media and reacted to his Padma Bhushan honour. “My gratitude to the Motherland…. ’Padma Bhushan’ My heartfelt thanks to the nation, the people, and the Government for honoring me with this civilian honour. Republic Day Wishes to everyone……," he wrote.

The actor is set to thrill fans in his upcoming film Patriot, also featuring Mohanlal, Nayanthara and others. He also has Adoor Gopalakrishnan's
Padayaatra in the pipeline. Mammootty will also be seen in
Bazooka, a thriller directed by debutant Deeno Dennis, expected to release in early 2026.
