All the rumours of our days getting bigger, in terms of hours, could stand true and we may soon get to see 25 hours in a day. Scientists are expecting Earth's rotation to keep slowing. Now, the changes
are pretty slow, to the extent that they almost go unnoticed in our daily lives. Our days feel wrapped up around the 24 hours format because we have shaped things in that direction. Everything around us working in 24 hours cycle. However, coming to the changes, if Earth's rotation is measured against distant stars instead of the Sun, the result is a shorter unit dubbed the sidereal day. The difference arises because Earth is not only spinning but also moving in its orbit. Now, to bring the Sun back to the same point, the planets must rotate at a slightly different pace and angle.Keeping that in mind, we can say that the solar day shifts by small amounts almost every day. And with a lot of changes like this, we can say that the days get longer in the end. Furthermore, the moon also plays an important roll in the change as its gravity pulls on oceans, creating tides as the planet rotates. According to NASA, the friction caused due to tides drains a small amount of rotational energy from Earth. And over time, the planet starts spinning slowly.
