struck the sets of SJ Suryah’s upcoming directorial Killer after a gas balloon cylinder explosion led to the death of a technician and injuries to three others during filming in Chennai. The accident happened during an early morning shoot at a mill premises in Otteri, where the crew had been working on a important schedule involving over a hundred crew members. The accident has halted production, and a police investigation has begun. The film, which marks SJ Suryah’s return to direction, is an action thriller which is expected to be wrapped in the coming months.

The incident took place around 3.30 am on Wednesday at the B&C Mill premises in the Otteri area, where a key schedule was underway. More than a hundred technicians and workers were present on set during the shoot. According to reports, a gas balloon cylinder exploded, triggering a sudden fire accident that caused panic on location. The deceased technician, Madhan (26) from Maduravoyal, reportedly died on the spot. The injured include Sakthivel (27) from Kundrathur, Surya (23) from Maduravoyal, and Dinakaran (24) from Nerkundram.
Fellow crew members rushed all four to Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. While Madhan was declared dead on arrival, the others are currently undergoing treatment.Police officials from the Otteri area have registered a case and launched an investigation into the cause of the explosion. Authorities are examining safety measures followed during the shoot as production remains suspended following the incident. Earlier this year, SJ Suryah sustained injuries while filming a stunt sequence in Chennai’s Palavakkam. During the shoot, he was performing a rope-based action scene when he accidentally hit a rod, injuring both his legs. Doctors confirmed that SJ Suryah suffered deep cuts on both his legs, which required stitches.
SJ Suryah’s Return to Direction
Killer marks SJ Suryah’s return to directing after his 2015 film Isai. The filmmaker is also credited with writing the screenplay and dialogues. The project reunites him with composer AR Rahman after earlier collaborations, including Anbe Aaruyire. Preethi Asrani plays the female lead, while other cast members are yet to be officially announced.
SJ Suryah, known for directing films such as Vaalee, Kushi, Naani, New, and Anbe Aaruyire, is returning for his 10th directorial venture. On the acting front, he was last seen in Veera Dheera Sooran and Love Insurance Kompany, with Sardar 2 and Indian 3 currently in production.
