In the latest development in the ongoing controversy over KD The Devil song Sarke Chunar, Nora Fatehi appeared before the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Thursday, May 7. The NCW had called her in after the song was accused of being obscene and vulgar. Nora spoke to the media afterwards and apologised for any hurt caused. She said that she never meant to offend anyone. She also announced that she would sponsor the education of orphan girls as a step forward following this controversy.Talking to reporters, Nora Fatehi said, "I apologise as I have to be responsible as an artist. There was no intention to offend anybody. After this matter, I have decided to sponsor the education of orphan girls." The Commission had summoned her over allegations
of obscenity and vulgarity linked to the song.The NCW had earlier in March issued summons to several people connected to Sarke Chunar. These include Nora Fatehi, Sanjay Dutt, lyricist Raqueeb Alam, producer Venkat K Narayana, and director Kiran Kumar. The case had sparked a debate about content in Bollywood songs and the responsibility of artists towards their audience.In an official statement issued at the time, the NCW said the content of the song "appears to be sexually suggestive and objectionable," adding that it could amount to violations under certain provisions.
