Hashmi and Yami Gautam Dhar-starrer Haq is all set to hit the big screens on November 7, 2025. Directed by Suparn Varma, Haq is inspired by the 1980s landmark Shah Bano Case. In an exclusive interaction with Times Now Editor-in-Chief Navika Kumar, Haq actor Emraan Hashmi shared his views on men disowning wives for their convenience and admitted that India is not a pro-divorce country.

During a candid chat with us, Emraan Hashmi was asked about the divorce cases in India. He said, “This is an age-old problem which has been in the society for many years. The marriage stops when the couple starts fighting. This happens in every religion. The men conveniently want to wash their hands of the relationships. They give divorces to their respective wives.”

In fact, such women don't even know the avenue to seek justice. It is a very complicated journey. Shah Bano fought hard to get justice. It's a big thing. It's a testimonial. Men hide behind righteousness and convenience,” Emraan Hashmi added. When asked to choose between Sharia Law and Indian Law, Emraan Hashmi stated that there is no simple answer to it. He said, “Our country is not pro-divorce. It's always pro-marriage. As far as the laws are concerned, we should respect the judiciary. There is no simple answer to it. The nation was divided at that point.” Talking about Haq, the film has been produced by the MD of Times Group, Vineet Jain. The trailer of Haq received a positive response from the masses.
