In good news for WhatsApp users in India, the popular Meta-owned instant messaging platform has released a new feature that lets people recharge prepaid mobile numbers directly within the app. It is currently being rolled out in phases on both Android and iOS devices and is expected to reach all users across the country in the coming weeks. The new feature allows users to recharge their own number or even recharge for friends and family in a few simple steps. This means users no longer need to switch between multiple apps or visit third-party platforms just to top up their mobile balance."The feature is designed to make recharges quick and seamless, with access to plans across major operators and multiple payment options including UPI, debit
cards, and credit cards," the Meta-owned app said in a statement. "In India, WhatsApp is where people connect with friends and family and increasingly, where they complete everyday essential tasks. By bringing recharges directly into WhatsApp, we are making it easier for people to stay connected without having to juggle between multiple apps. This is part of our continued effort to build a more unified experience on WhatsApp, where people can get more done in one place, in a way that is simple, reliable, and seamless," Ravi Garg, Director, Business Messaging, Meta India, said. Our partnership with Meta reflects our commitment to making high-frequency transactions simpler, more accessible, and effortless,” said Hemang Dattani, Chief Business Officer, PayU Payments. One of the key highlights of this feature is a new rupee (₹) icon on the WhatsApp home screen.
