Within the last year, actor Anurag Thakur has had back-to-back hit drama series with Black Warrant and Freedom at Midnight Season 2. In the crime thriller, Black Warrant, Anurag plays Vipin Dahiya, an impulsive
and hot-tempered jailer working at the Tihar jail. And in the new season of the historical drama Freedom at Midnight, the actor essays the role of Madanlal Pahwa, a refugee during the Partition who tried to assassinate Mahatma Gandhi. Since his success with Black Warrant last year, Anurag reveals how life and his career has changed. He also shared an update for impatient fans who are waiting for the next season of the award-winning show.

In an interview with
Zoom, Anurag shared that he didn't see himself struggling as an actor before
Black Warrant. He stated, "I do not see those days as a struggle.

kar hi raha tha. It was always my priority that I act whether it's theater or cinema. I've been doing theater since 2011. So, it's been quite some time now. While I was doing theater, I was still giving auditions and even now I do theater. So it wasn't a problem for me that how do I enter Bollywood? How do I work? For me, working was more important than getting the recognition that I got right now."
The actor added, "But yes, after Black Warrant, things have changed. People now approach me for better parts that I always would think to do. It happened because of that. Yes, things are changing." He won the Filmfare OTT Awards 2025 for Breakthrough Performance By A Newcomer (Male), Series for
Black Warrant last year, but will continue acting on stage and has a play planned for February. Speaking about
Black Warrant Season 2, Anurag revealed that it would take some time for the next season to return. He shared, "Season 2 was supposed to be started last year only, but it got postponed.
Hum toh shoot hi karne wale the. Now it's postponed, what's happening and why, I haven't got any recent update. Hopefully, I guess next year maybe. I don't know. This year end, I hope so."
Anurag Thakur's upcoming projects
Speaking about his lineup for 2026, Anurag shared that he was starting a film with Hansal Mehta in March. He said, "It's a small part, but a very important part. I have shot two films. One with Richie Mehta sir and he's made a beautiful film actually. It's called Sundari for now. And one is with Rajkummar Rao sir called Raftar. It's on the education system."
The actor also shared that he's looking to do roles now that are quite different from the last two characters he's played, Dahiya and Pahwa on
Black Warrant and
Freedom at Midnight Season 2, respectively. "I don't want to repeat myself. And I would like to do more biopics, I would say. All kinds of roles. But acchi writing hogi toh maaza ayega," he concluded. The new season of
