Gullak 5: Anant Joshi On Taking Over Role Of Annu Bhaiya And Not Speaking To Vaibhav Raj Gupta Yet - Exclusive

the new season of Gullak premieres on SonyLIV on June 5, fans will be surprised to see Anant Joshi take over the role of Annu Mishra. The actor joins the show for the fifth season after Vaibhav Raj Gupta left. Anant, who is known for his roles on 12th Fail and Maamla Legal Hai, talked about how he got the opportunity to be a part of the Mishra family and whether he's had a chance to speak with Vaibhav yet. The actor also revealed his excitement of being a part of the Gullak family.

In a conversation with us, Anant revealed that he was approached by The Viral Fever (TVF) for the role. He recalled, "Just typically, like how they say, an actor's life can change through a phone call. Similarly, on a phone call and the TVF team, they said that they would like to meet me and then they broke the big news, which made me really happy, and almost it was unbelievable for me. So I think my first reaction was, are you sure?"

While Anant will have his own interpretation of Annu Mishra, the actor shares that he has not yet talked with Vaibhav who earlier played the role. He shared, "I've been a huge admirer of his work through Gullak. So because main bhi dekhta tha show ko kaafi [I watched the show very often] and I enjoyed it. It's so interesting you asked me this because every time I would watch Vaibhav, I would think, ek din na hum kisi na kisi project main bhai play karenge [we'll play brothers in a project one day]. And trust me when I say this, I'm not kidding you. Because kahin na kahin [somewhere] physically also we look similar. I was not ready for doing a character, which he made so iconic. But we were never friends. So kabhi baat nahin ho paayi usse [I couldn't talk to him] about the role that I'm doing it."

The Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein actor revealed that before he joined the series, he had a discussion with the team to make sure they were absolutely sure about the collaboration. Anant added that while he was nervous, "I think what made me very sure was the creative team of TVF for Gullak. Yeah, they are very sure, they are very aware because we are doing the fifth season. I didn't think anywhere that how will I do this?"

He went on to say, "For Annu, the kudos goes to the writers, the way they have written, formed, this character, not only this one, whether it's Aman, Mummy, or Papa, or Bittu ki mummy, for that matter, they are so formed characters that you can't get lost when the writing is good. You can only bloom it in the right direction, the way that writing has given you a good idea." Gullak 5 sees Jameel Khan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, and Harsh Mayar reprise their roles as the Mishra family members. Sunita Rajwar and Helly Shah also return, while Gopal Datt joins the show as Pinky mama this season on SonyLIV.
