Dhar and Ranveer Singh's spy action franchise Dhurandhar, including both instalments, roared at the box office and reportedly earned over Rs 3,000 crore worldwide during its dream run. However, Pakistan's response to the blockbuster - Mera Lyari - failed to impress audiences and reportedly turned into a major flop. Reports suggest the film could not survive even a week in theatres and tanked badly. For those unaware, the movie was reportedly made as a rebuttal to Dhar's portrayal of violence and illegal criminal activities in Karachi's Lyari, aiming to present the "real picture" of the town. But it seems audiences were not interested.

Mera Lyari, which was touted as a response to
Dhurandhar, has reportedly been pulled from theatres after witnessing a shockingly low audience turnout. Directed by Abu Aleeha, the film reportedly attempted to showcase the positive side of Karachi's Lyari town. It starred Ayesha Omar, Dananeer Mobeen and Samiya Mumtaz in key roles. According to the poster, the movie revolved around a female footballer.While the film became a topic of discussion online, it failed to pull audiences to theatres. According to Pakistani media reports, its screenings have now reportedly been cancelled. Reports also claim that the film sold only 22 tickets, although the official box office numbers are yet to be announced.Meanwhile, the makers of the film are yet to officially confirm or deny reports about its shows being cancelled at major theatres across Pakistan.
Notably, the movie had its premiere at the UK Asian Film Festival.
Dhurandhar's Big ROAR At Box Office
Dhurandhar followed a secret Indian spy who enters Lyari to infiltrate Karachi’s local gangs and gather intelligence about terrorist activities planned against his country. Also starring Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Sanjay Dutt and Sara Arjun, it arrived in cinemas in December last year. The film earned over Rs 1,300 crore worldwide and emerged as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time.
Just three months later, the second instalment -
Dhurandhar: The Revenge - released in theatres. Amid massive hype and anticipation among fans, the sequel opened to an even bigger response. During its dream box office run, it shattered multiple records and surpassed several Hindi cinema blockbusters, including
Animal, Pathaan, Jawan and Pushpa 2: The Rule. The film currently holds an approximate worldwide gross of Rs 1,796 crore after enjoying a 57-day theatrical run. Creating history, it has become the highest-earning Bollywood film of all time.
