Anik Dutta's tragic death has left the Bengali film industry shocked. The director, who reportedly died after falling from the terrace of his Kolkata house, succumbed to his injuries after being admitted in the hospital. He is survived by his daughter who lives in Mumbai. In an exclusive interview with Zoom, Bengali actress Mumtaz Sorcar called him a father figure in her life and mourned his death. She said that she is still in shock and has not been able to accept that Anik Dutta is no more.

Bhooter Bhabishyat, has returned from the hospital where the director passed. The actress told us, "It is yet to sink in and I don't know what to say. I cannot find words right now. I don’t want to accept it, the way he died. I don’t know what to say, I don’t have words to describe the loss. Anik da was probably not just a director, he was like a father to me and I shared a very different kind of a bond with him."
Recalling their work relationship, Mumtaz called Anik 'a hardcore professional.' She said, "After
Bhooter Bhabishyat was shot, I got busy with some other things." He did call me for other things and it so happened that things didn't work out. But we always wanted to continue the team. We would be working with each other. But now I can't ever think of it anymore." She lamented that now she would never be able to have a conversation with him anymore.Crediting him for giving work to many people, Mumtaz continued, "That man, within the scope of Bengali cinema did some amazing films.
Bhooter Bhabishyat exists because of him. He gave so many people their careers. He gave Bengali cinema a new fillip. I have yet to come across another cinema equivalent to it." Mumtaz concluded by saying she is 'heartbroken' after his death. "He was a very good man and things will definitely not be the same as before. It is extremely heartbreaking," said the actress.

National Award-winning film Aparajito's director Anik Dutta passed away on Wednesday, May 27, after reportedly suffering severe injuries from a fall from the terrace of his residence in Kolkata’s Hindustan Park. The celebrated director, best known for films like
Bhooter Bhabishyat, Borunbabur Bondhu, Aparajito and
Joto Kando Kolkatatei, was rushed to a hospital near Dhakuria in critical condition, where he later breathed his last. Reports suggest that Anik Dutta had been staying alone at his Kolkata home for the past few months, while his daughter lives in Mumbai.
