and Trisha Krishnan’s much-awaited Tamil film Karuppu has finally released in theatres today, after facing delays and last-minute show cancellations across Tamil Nadu on May 14, the makers confirmed. Despite Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s approval for special 9 a.m. shows, the film could not hit screens on the scheduled day due to financial hurdles and pending dues. Now, on May 15 the film finally hit screens. To celebrate the big release, the team of Karuppu arrived at a popular theatre in Chennai. The film's director RJ Balaji, lead actress Trisha, music composer Sai Abhyankkar were present. Karthi was there to represent his brother Suriya.
Trisha Krishnan Makes First Appearance After Attending TN CM Vijay's Swearing In Ceremony
To mark the release, Trisha attended the film’s First Day First Show, making her first public appearance after attending Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay’s swearing-in ceremony on May 10. Dressed in an oversized black T-shirt and pants, Trisha was seen waving at fans as she arrived at Rohini Cinemas. She also greeted Karthi, with a warm hug.
Her presence at the screening comes days after she attended Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay’s oath-taking ceremony, where she was seen applauding and appearing emotional at moments, which created speculation around her personal life.
RJ Balaji and Fan Celebrations Outside Theatre
Music composer Sai Abhyankkar and director RJ Balaji were also present for the FDFS celebrations, with Balaji appearing visibly excited as he interacted with the crowd. Videos circulating online show fans gathering outside the theatre as RJ Balaji arrived amid huge excitement.
In another clip, he addressed the audience, saying, “Let’s have a great time. We’ve crossed all obstacles. Hope you like the film; the film is all yours now.” Just a day earlier, RJ Balaji had shared an emotional video in which he broke down in tears while apologising to fans for the delay in the film’s release and the disrupted theatrical schedule.
Karuppu Delay Reason
Karuppu was released on May 15, 2026, a day later than its originally planned May 14 release. The sudden postponement came after production house Dream Warrior Pictures faced financial challenges, leading to last-minute cancellations and preventing theatres from screening the film on schedule.The film is produced by SR Prabhu and SR Prakash Babu under the Dream Warrior Pictures banner. Suriya plays Saravanan, a character inspired by his real name, while Trisha portrays Preethi. The ensemble cast includes Natty Natraj, Mansoor Ali Khan, Swasika, Sshivada, Anagha Maya Ravi, and Supreeth Reddy, among others.
