If you are planning to create a your Channel on WhatsApp, this might be the right time. Why? Because the popular instant messaging app is reportedly working on a new feature for creators to make money directly on the platform. The Meta-owned app may soon let creators earn through their Channels by offering paid subscriptions. This means you can share exclusive content with your subscribers and earn money from it.The feature is currently under development and has not been rolled out to users yet. However, it seems WhatsApp’s plans to turn Channels into a more creator-friendly platform with monetisation options."Following the release of the latest WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.14.4 update, which is available on the Google Play Store, we discovered
that WhatsApp is working on a feature that will allow users to see how many followers are subscribed to a channel," WABetainfo, a website that tracks WhatsApp-related developments, reported. As per details spotted, the instant messaging app is testing a feature where users can subscribe to their favourite channels by paying a fee. At the moment, users can subscribe to any channel at no cost but the new paid feature will give them access to premium posts. One of the key highlights of this upcoming feature is transparency. The Meta-owned app is also working on showing the number of paid subscribers a channel has. This number will be visible to everyone even those who are not paying subscribers. "It will appear alongside the total follower count in the channel info section. This can help users decide whether a channel’s paid content is worth subscribing to. A higher subscriber count may signal trust and popularity, while a lower number could make users think twice before paying," the report said. The report says that Channel creators will be able to easily set up subscriptions within the channel info screen. They will be able to configure how much to charge users. Once subscribed, followers will gain access to exclusive content. Although users will find exclusive content in the same channel, they can be easily separated through a filter. This will let users easily browse and enjoy both free and exclusive posts without confusion. It is important to note that subscribing to a channel will be completely optional. Once channel subscriptions are available users do not have to pay just because a channel offers a subscription. According To WABetaInfo, followers can decide whether the exclusive content is valuable to them. So the decision to subscribe will always remain in the hands of the user. The report says that free content in the channel will continue to be available to everyone. Paid content is simply an additional option for those who want more. At the same time, all content including paid posts will have to follow WhatsApp’s rules and guidelines. This means creators cannot share harmful or illegal content, even behind a paywall.
