The
buzz for Weapons started at the beginning of the year. The horror film by Zach Cregger finds an entire classroom save one mysteriously vanish at the same time on the same night. What happened to the missing children? The twisty film explains why. After releasing in theatres on August 8, Weapons took over the box office and grossed $251 million worldwide on a budget of $38 million. In the new year, you can catch Weapons at home on JioHotstar. Starring Josh Brolin and Julia Garner in lead roles, the horror will leave you on the edge of your seat with its wild swings.
Weapons to premiere in January 2026
On Instagram, JioHotstar posted, "At 2:17 a.m., seventeen children disappeared from their homes and never came back. Where did they go? #Weapons, streaming January 8 onwards on JioHotstar." After Cregger's 2022 cult horror hit,
Barbarian, there was a multi-million-dollar bidding war for the filmmaker's next script. Cregger has also directed, produced, and co-composed the music for
Weapons.
In the bona fide hit, Julia Garner plays teacher Justine Gandy, whose classroom of children disappears overnight. Immediately, she becomes the prime suspect in the small town of Maybrook, Pennsylvania. Only one student, Alex Lilly (Cary Christopher), remains in the classroom. Also starring Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, and Cary Christopher, with Benedict Wong and Amy Madigan,
the film's narrative goes through many nonlinear viewpoints to arrive at its delicious conclusion.
Weapons also has horror king Stephen King's seal of approval. The writer shared that the Zach Cregger film was "confidently told and very scary." Going into awards season, the film has already received love for veteran actress Amy Madigan, who is being seen as a frontrunner to gain a nomination for Best Supporting Actress. She has gotten nominations at the Golden Globe Award and Critics Choice Award.
