Ayan Mukerji’s father, Deb Mukherjee, breathed his last at the age of 83 on March 14. On his birth anniversary today, the War 2 director remembered him. Ayan shared his childhood pictures with Mr Mukherjee on Instagram

Sharing pictures on Instagram, Ayan wrote, “Happy Birthday Baba !!! Love you. Miss you.” The filmmaker also posted a picture of his handwritten letter to his father on one of his birthdays. Ayan’s cousin and Kajol’s younger sister, actress Tanishaa Mukerji, commented, “Happy birthday Debu kaka”

Issuing a statement on Mr Mukherjee’s demise, his spokesperson wrote, “We are deeply saddened to inform you of the passing of Mr Debu Mukherjee, an actor and driving force of the North Bombay Durga Puja. He left us this morning.” At the prayer meet, Ayan addressed the paparazzi for the first time. Reacting to their concerns about not getting clear pictures and videos of celebrities, the director humbly requested them to give the family privacy to cope with the loss.In a viral video, he said, “Humare paas jagah nahi thi. Kya hai na humne andar shlokas rakhe hai. Photographers aayenge toh awaaz hogi. Please aaj ke liye rehne do. Yeh humare liye bohot personal event hai. Durga Puja ka event nahi hai. It is very different for us today. Please understand karo. Aapko kuch mil jaye, nahi toh I’m very sorry.”Deb Mukherjee had worked in several Bollywood movies such as Aansoo Ban Gaye Phool, Abhinetri, Do Aankhen, Baaton Baaton Mein, Kaminey, Gudgudee and so on. He was uncle to Kajol, Rani Mukerji and Tanishaa Mukerji. Ayan and the entire Mukerji family laid him to rest at the Pawan Hans crematorium in Mumbai’s Juhu area on March 14.
