If this sounds familiar, Google has introduced a new feature that could help you take back control of your screen time."Sometimes you need something in the middle that encourages app use with clear intention," Google wrote in a blog post.The tech giant is releasing a feature called Pause Point for Android users. It is designed to make you think before opening apps that usually waste your time."When you open a distracting app, Pause Point gives you a 10-second breather to ask, 'Why am I here?' During that pause, you can do a short breathing exercise or set a timer so you don’t

spend too much time scrolling. You can also look at some favorite photos or jump to alternative app suggestions, like an audiobook," Google said.According to the tech giant, You can mark apps like Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, or X as 'distracting apps.' Every time you try to open one of these apps, your Android phone will show a 10-second pause screen.During these 10 seconds, your phone will ask a simple question: Why am I here?You can use this short break to think whether you really want to open the app or if you are just doing it out of habit. Android will also offer a few useful options, such as starting a breathing exercise, setting a timer, viewing favourite photos, or opening a different app like an audiobook or fitness app instead.This is different from regular app timers, which only alert you after you have already spent too much time scrolling. Pause Point interrupts you before the scrolling begins.Google says the feature is designed to help users use their phones more intentionally. It also makes it harder to turn off, as disabling Pause Point requires restarting the phone.So if you often tell yourself -- just five minutes on Instagram, and end up losing an hour, Pause Point could be the reminder you need.
