In this day and age, no one can deny that AI tools have been working in order to increase the productivity of professionals and individuals. However, this thing is not going well with a lot of firms, and the latest one in the scenario is Walmart. According to a report published by Bloomberg, Walmart has started restricting employees' use of its in-house AI assistant, Code Puppy. The report clearly mentions that the AI tool had strong demand from workers and thus, has increased all the costs for the company. The report also mentions that Walmart employees get a token limit for Code Puppy, and the token works as a unit of measurement for AI. For instance, the amount of work is directly proportional to the tokens exhausted. Previously, Walmart used
to offer unlimited Code Puppy use for all its employees. Why Sam Altman's ChatGPT Became Too Personal For Some Users After This UpdateFor those unaware, Code Puppy is an AI agent that was developed to help workers do different tasks like creating presentations or filing spreadsheets. According to a Walmart spokesperson, the firm wants its workers to use AI in ways that can create value. It is also believed that Walmart employees have access to other AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude, too. At this point in time, none of us can deny that the costs related to AI and its functioning are skyrocketing. And Walmart is not the first company to pull a move like that. In the past, Uber also came out as a firm and accepted the issue that they issued Claude Code for 5000 engineers in January and exhausted the annual budget in a few months. Apart from that, reports have it that Microsoft is also following the same path and has been asking thousands of its engineers to move from Claude Code to an internal tool, and the deadline for the same is June 30, 2026.
