Indian Sitarist-Composer Anoushka Shankar Leads Grammy 2026 Line-Up With 11th Nomination, Shankar Mahadevan's Shakti Joins

wait for the 68th Annual Grammy Awards has finally begun! An official announcement of the Grammy nominations 2026 has been made. And this time, the competition has just got bigger and better. Kendrick Lamar is leading the nominations after receiving nine nods. On the other hand, Lady Gaga bagged seven nominations, followed by Sabrina Carpenter and Bad Bunny with six nominations each. Several Indian and Indian-origin artists have found themselves in the spotlight as well, including sitarist and composer Anoushka Shankar.

Shankar picked up multiple nominations for her latest work, Chapter III: We Return to Light, and this news has taken over the internet. The Best Global Music Album race features three Indian collaborations this year. Alongside Shankar’s record is composer Siddhant Bhatia’s Sounds of Kumbha, a collaboration-driven album inspired by the spiritual and sonic energy of the Kumbh Mela.Also nominated is Shakti’s Mind Explosion (50th Anniversary Tour Live), a celebration of the legendary jazz-fusion group’s five-decade journey, led by John McLaughlin and Zakir Hussain.

Another Indian name making waves is Madurai-born, New York-based jazz pianist Charu Suri, nominated for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for Shayan (Sleep). Known for merging jazz improvisation with classical ragas, Suri’s album explores the meditative state between wakefulness and rest. Meanwhile, BLACKPINK's Rose has become the first K-pop solo artist to receive a nomination. She bagged her first-ever Grammy nomination for the single, APT. She's also the first Korean soloist to secure nominations in top categories - Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance.
