As
BTS continue dominating charts with ARIRANG, ARMYs cannot stop talking about Body To Body, the explosive opening track that instantly became one of the album’s biggest highlights. Produced in collaboration with Ryan Tedder, the song blends emotional intensity with addictive hooks, creating the perfect kickoff to BTS’ long-awaited comeback. From J-Hope’s unforgettable “I need…” line toRM’s playful response, “What you need, twin?”, the track sparked massive online buzz. Now, Ryan Tedder has finally opened up about how the fan-favorite anthem came together, revealing surprising details about its creation and BTS’ involvement behind the scenes.
Ryan Tedder on creating Body To Body
During his appearance on Zach Sang show, Ryan Tedder revealed that the viral hook of
BTS’
Body To Body was born from his desire to create “the weirdest thing” listeners could not get out of their heads. Tedder said he wanted a repeating vocal phrase that would become “the anchor for a record.” While experimenting with vocal samples, he discovered a loop that originally said “baby, I need,” before chopping and reshaping it into the now-iconic “I need” hook fans instantly connected with. He shared, "That's what it's saying, baby, I need and that's the phrase that we took, baby, baby, I need, baby, I need." And this is how “What you need, twin?" line was created.
Ryan also recalled the hilarious reaction producer Thomas Wesley Pentz had after hearing the unusual vocal loop for the first time. “Yo, dude, what is that? Is that a vocal sample or something?” Pentz asked, completely stunned by the sound. Tedder laughed as he admitted even he could not fully explain why it worked so well, calling it “pretty sick.” When Pentz jokingly asked, “Are we gonna get sued?” Tedder assured him everything was cleared before the team quickly built the explosive drums around the sample. According to Tedder, the moment the beat dropped, everyone in the room instantly made that signature “this is nasty” reaction face, knowing they had created something unforgettable.Meanwhile, until Ryan revealed the story, ARMYs thought the lyrics are "b-b-b-b-Ari b-b-b-b-Ari" but actually it is "Ba-by-ba-by-I need, ba-by-ba-by-I need."
Few days ago,
Diplo who also co-produced
Body To Body, revealed that BTS and HYBE chairman Bang Si-Hyuk played a major role in shaping the track calling it “all the guys’ idea.” He shared that Ryan Tedder built the track around a vocal sample before the team finalized the now-iconic drums. Diplo also revealed the
ARIRANG interlude originally featured a Bulgarian choir before being replaced with traditional Korean sounds, making the stadium anthem feel even more powerful within the album’s story.
