Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar set the box office target for other films extremely high. The Aditya Dhar-directed spy thriller got not just the nation but the world talking. The film is still running in select
theatres while sharing screens with Border 2 and today’s latest release, Mardaani 3. As the countdown to Dhurandhar Part Two begins, the makers announced its Netflix premiere. The film has released in its original language, Hindi, along with dubs in Tamil and Telugu. Dhurandhar missed the entire Gulf market due to content restrictions. UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Oman had banned its theatrical release because of its anti-Pakistan theme.
Dhurandhar releases in UAE
However,
Netflix has now opened access for the audience in the
UAE. Viewers can watch
Dhurandhar in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in the UAE, as confirmed by sources to Zoom. Besides the six Gulf nations, the film was banned in Pakistan. It is still not clear whether the makers got the necessary permissions to premiere the spy thriller in the neighbouring country.
Why was Dhurandhar banned in UAE?
Dhurandhar faced a
ban in Gulf countries and Pakistan because the film highlights India’s tense political relationship with the neighbouring country. It is about Hamza Ali Mazari, who joins Rehman Dakait’s gang, but with an ulterior motive. He marries the daughter of an influential Pakistani politician for a reason. It is revealed that Hamza is India’s spy in Pakistan who enters the underworld to leak details of their activities.
Dhurandhar Part Two will pick up from
Rehman Dakait’s death. Major Iqbal takes the centre stage this time, and Hamza will be facing a new challenge and threat from Bade Sahab, an identity undisclosed in the first part. Prior to this, he has had the backing of his father-in-law and SP Chaudhary, the notorious encounter cop.
Censored or uncensored?
Hours after
Dhurandhar arrived on Netflix, a section of netizens expressed disappointment, claiming the film was censored for its OTT premiere. However, it was soon clarified that no changes were made to the original print and the version that released in theatres was streaming as it is.
Dhurandhar stars Ranveer Singh, Sanjay Dutt, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Akshaye Khanna, Sara Arjun and Rakesh Bedi, among others. The CBFC cleared Dhurandhar with a runtime of 3 hours and 34 minutes. A 4-minute-long post-credit scene laid the foundation for the second part, which is releasing on March 19.
