Malayalam actor, scriptwriter and filmmaker Sreenivasan, who redefined Malayalam cinema through his stories which reflected middle-class voices has died in Kochi on 20 December. He was 69. Sreenivasan had a strong presence in Malayalam cinema as an actor, writer and filmmaker. His demise left behind a body of work that shaped the social commentary of the industry for over four decades. Pullakuttikaran
Pullakuttikaran directed by Parthiban, marked Sreenvasan's Tamil debut. The story follows Veeraiyan, who cares for orphans by stealing. He later falls for Ammu, who joins him in doing illegal activities. Their lives get entangled with a corrupt politician played by Sreenivasan, decides to ruin their happily-ever-after. The film stars Parthiban in the lead role, alongside Sangita, while Prakash Raj and Urvashi portray supporting roles The film is streaming on Youtube.
Lesa Lesa
One of Sreenivasan's most memorable roles, Lesa Lesa continues to be cherished by fans even 22 years after its release. The film tells the story of Chandru, a spendthrift who pretends his wealthy friend Rakesh's estate is his, in order to impress his grandfather. Complications begin when he falls for a girl sending him love notes, leading to a chaotic holiday where identities are exchanged. Srinivasan played the role of Pandi, who is determined to expose Chandru (played by Shaam). The path to pull down Chandru results in hilarious events, portrayed with ease and perfect comic timing by Sreenivasan. The film directed by Priyadarshan, stars Shaam, Trisha, while Vivek, Radha Ravi played supporting roles. Madhavan makes a special appearance. The film is remake of the 1998 Malayalam film Summer in Bethlehem.
