Kshitee Jog on period taboo
Kshitee told us, “Baai Tujhyapayi is unfortunately relevant today. We can’t say such incidents happened many years ago. It is still happening with women in 2025. Degrees might have changed, but not the taboo. While I was shooting for Baai Tujhyapayi, I interacted with the women in that village. I figured out that they don't enter the kitchen because they are on their periods. They don't eat certain foods. This happens in the urban world also, in cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, etc. It is not something that we still talk about openly and naturally. We tend to forget that it is a natural phenomenon. If women don't get their periods, the world will stop running. That is an important thing, but we don't look at it like that. It is looked as if I don't know what happened. It is believed that if women get periods, there is something wrong that she's done. It is even there today.”ALSO READ:71st National Film Awards: Karan Johar 'Deeply Honoured' For 3rd Consecutive Win For Dharma Productions
'Education is important'
When asked if she had grown up hearing stories similar to the plot of Baai Tujhyapayi, Kshitee added, “I know about a lot of stories about women who get married early. Luckily, in a country like India, we still have an 18-year (age bar for marriage, and you can't get married before that. Education is still something that we need to work on. They are told not to study and learn household chores. Women are there in every field and everywhere, even the moon. They got the World Cup for us. I don't know what more women need to do. Controlling women for some reason is there, and it's not just in India. It's all around the world. In fact, I'm blessed to be born in a country like India, where I can voice my opinions and we pray to goddesses, which is not there in any other country." Baai Tujhyapayi is written by Mukta Bam and Nikhil Khaire. It is currently streaming on OTT.
