Shetty's Golmaal 5 has not even started shooting, yet it has already found itself at the centre of a controversy. The Ajay Devgn-led comedy recently became the subject of online reports claiming that the film was inspired by the 1980 classic Do Aur Do Paanch. The claims spread rapidly across digital platforms, triggering confusion among fans of both films. Reacting strongly, Rohit Shetty issued an official clarification, calling the reports false and misleading. He also warned that legal action would be taken if unverified information about Golmaal 5 continued to be published or circulated.
Rohit Shetty Issues Statement
The issue began when reports suggested that Golmaal 5 would borrow its core idea from Do Aur Do Paanch, originally starring Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor. According to these claims, the old story was to be reshaped for a modern audience. Rohit Shetty, however, dismissed the rumours completely. In an official statement released by Rohit Shetty Picturez, the filmmaker stated that Golmaal 5 is not inspired by, based on, or connected to Do Aur Do Paanch in any manner.
Along with rejecting the claims, Rohit Shetty warned against publishing unverified news. The statement clearly said that any update related to Golmaal 5 must be confirmed through official sources or the film's PR team. Failure to do so, the makers warned, could invite strict legal action.The clarification was issued to stop speculation early, as the film is still in its planning stage.
Akshay Kumar Joins Golmaal 5
Golmaal 5 is the fifth film in the hit comedy series directed by Rohit Shetty. It brings back Ajay Devgn with his popular team including Arshad Warsi, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Kemmu, with many familiar faces from earlier films returning too. Reports say Golmaal 5 will begin shooting in early 2026 and is planned for a 2027 theatrical release, with new sets being built in Mumbai’s Film City for the shoot.Akshay Kumar has joined the cast as the main antagonist and there are talks of other big actors possibly joining. Rohit has previously worked with Akshay on Sooryavanshi. The actor also featured in Singham 3.Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty's next theatrical release would be the Rakesh Maria biopic starring John Abraham. The shooting for the film has been completed but the makers are yet to announce the release date or unveil first look from the film. The director will also be returning to host Khatron Ke Khialdi 15 later this year.
